Ray served in the Navy for four years as a Radar Man. Here is a tribute written by his daughter Lisa Wells that she posted on Facebook, and I thought it was so well said that I am including here. "He was a loving husband to my Mom, Karen, for 53 years. They had been high school sweethearts and spent little time apart. He was a wonderful father, grandpa, brother, and uncle, always invested in his family. He was thoughtful and wise and offered us much wisdom and guidance. Dad really loved us. Dad passionately loved animals, especially dogs. His current baby, Kiki, is a sweet and loving Shih-Tzu, who really misses her daddy. He loved his country, for which he fought during the Vietnam war and he was proud to be a veteran of the United States Navy. Dad was an integral part of a small team who worked with Robert Moog, (inventor of the Moog Synthesizer) during the early 1970s. He was credited with being the first Moog repairman in history. Ray was also credited in the Emerson, Lake, and Palmer album “Brain Salad Surgery.” He was a good friend; a witty man who loved to share a clever observation. He was a talented drummer who loved to play and spent time watching professional videos to learn new techniques. He loved tinkering with small projects in his garage and could make a small engine hum. Dad had suffered with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a very painful and debilitating disease, for several years. We know he is in a better place and is no longer feeling pain. For that we are grateful. We all loved him so much and his death came on very quickly, leaving us with broken hearts and in a state of shock. Our lives will never be the same on earth without him. We have faith that we will be reunited with him again in Heaven someday. Until then, he will be our angel watching over us from above. Rest in peace, my precious Dad. I am so grateful to have had you for my father. We all love you so much and miss you more than words can express. You will live on in our memories forever and we will keep you in our hearts until we meet again. I love you, Dad." Ray and Karen also have a son Michael and his son Ryan who survive him. Along with sisters Janet Updike (Warren), Martha Updike (Hall) and sister's-in-law Gail Huhta (Carman), Wendy S Warren and brother-in-law Tom E Warren who all attended and graduated from Trumansburg.

Gail Huhta (Carman) (1966)

I should have included the name Tim Wells in the write-up, he is Ray's son-in-law.
