Note: After many years of trying to locate an address or information of any kind about Sally, Jim Sirrine discovered that Sally passed away in 2002. Following is the contents of an email from Jim...may you rest in peace, Sally. O K, here it is.... In the minutest detail, from start to finish. And it's been a 'trip'. What ever happened to Sally has been a question at every reunion since we started. I had some letters from college and Hope was her Freshman year roommate. Along about '65 we lost track. Four years ago Hope and I talked and got revved up but nothing happened. In July we got revved up again, but with no last name or date of birth we didn't have much to go on. The T-Burg school would not give me anything. I contacted a Deputy Sheriff, but he never called back. I hauled some boxes out of the attic so we could divest of a little 'stuff'. Two weeks ago Aggie said,"I found your box of old letters and one of them has Dear John written on the outside." And she quickly added that she had not read it.....Hey, after 44 years there aren't many secrets here. But D J rang a bell and sure enough Sally had given me the clue to finding her in 1965. ....'I met someone at camp (she and he were counselors) this summer and we are very serious about each other....and his name is Alan Manor.' Bingo, pay dirt, jackpot. Let's see what the internet has to say about Alan and Sally. At the same time I found an invitation to Sally's sister's wedding. Did I mention we were veerry good friends? Now I've got two last names. And somewhere in the few letters that I read I saw reference to Sullivan,MO where Dorothy lived. Familiar because I stayed there one time. Yeah, really good friends! So.....I took the chickens way out and looked up Charles and Dorothy Betz. Good matches, names, ages, locations. This is easy. So I hopped on Alan and Sally and came up with good matches. Right age, Manassas,VA (from Hope), etc. Presently in Shalimar, FL. 411 gives me a number for Leroy, who was listed as a relative, in his 90's. I'm a phone call away.... I'm a little out of my comfort zone here so it took a while. On the internet page with their names was a map, which was good, cause I don't have any idea where Shalimar is and I like to know these things. I see it is near Fort Walton Beach and I know that is in the panhandle, I'm good to go. I called later that evening. It is Alan's father Leroy. I state the purpose of my call and we chat. He is 91. Retired General USAF. The map showed an Air Force base. We chat and I'm getting good info. Sally has passed, Alan lives in Ladysmith, VA, I have a son (Dean) who lives in Radford, VA. That's 40 miles from Roanoke. GOOD info. So I went out on a limb and asked, "Do you know John Grove?", and the flood gates opened. That's not about Sally, so I'll put it at the end. Got Alan's phone number and said goodby. Not a bad days work, that actually took about 2 hours. That was last weekend. I had to let this rest for a while. and since I'm away all week (still truck driving) it rested 'til today. I got home early for a change and by 4 was ready to take the plunge. Like I said, outside of my comfort zone. Alan and I talked for several minutes. He was very personable and didn't seem hesitant to answer my questions. They got married in 10/64. He graduated from Plattsburgh, she did not. He got a teaching job in Fairfax, VA and became a Principal. He was a Principal in Manassas, VA for 20 plus years. During that time Sally became a bookkeeper and worked for several large companies in Manassas. She was good with numbers and had an excellent reputation as a bookkeeper. And then, as Alan explained it, "My Dad owned several houses and we moved to (one in) Ladysmith, VA. I got the feeling that Sally died there. They have two children, Mark and Anita. Sally's parents, Pete and Dot, moved to Missouri (with daughter Dorothy) after they left Jacksonville. Sally died on 2-27-2002 of C O P D. She was 57. Her sister predeceased her of the same illness. Alan's number is 804-448-3208. I did not open the door for any one , but I do not think it would be inappropriate for someone, especially Hope, to call. You certainly have a thing or two to chat about after all these years. As Bugs Bunny says, "Tha tha tha that's all folks." Doing this provided me with a lot of enjoyment and of course the sorrow of knowing that our friend and classmate left us way too soon. Let me know what/how all of you are doing. Jim Sirrine
