Survived By: He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann Richar; two sons, Patrick Richar and James (Justine) Richar; two grandsons, Wyatt and Jessie Richar; a sister, Joyce (John) Champion; a brother, James Richar; three sisters-in-law, Linda Laughton, Pat (Dick) Austic, and Jean (Jay) Russell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mecklenburg: Alfred E. Richar of 4750 Williamee Road, Mecklenburg, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Friday, December 23, 2011 at the age of 68. Born in Ithaca on September 18, 1943, Al was the son of Earl and Evelyn (Austic) Richar. He served in the US Navy on the USS Cadmus AR-14 as a communications specialist. He was very active at the American Legion Post #770 in Trumansburg where he was past and current Post Commander. He was also a past Commander of the Tompkins County American Legion. For the past 38 years, Al worked as a truck driver for Ehrhart Propane and Oil. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and spoiling his grandsons. Al will be missed by the many friends he made over cups of coffee. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann Richar; two sons, Patrick Richar and James (Justine) Richar; two grandsons, Wyatt and Jessie Richar; a sister, Joyce (John) Champion; a brother, James Richar; three sisters-in-law, Linda Laughton, Pat (Dick) Austic, and Jean (Jay) Russell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family invites their friends to join them in a celebration of Al's life from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770, 4431 Seneca Rd., Trumansburg. There will be a time for sharing and a Military Honors Tribute at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to remember Al in the form of a contribution to kindly consider the Trumansburg American Legion Post #770, PO Box 456, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
