Survived By: Surviving Stephen are his best friend of 20 years, Betsy Allen of Newfield; her son, Jazen (Kathy) Valencia and her grandson Wolf Valencia, both of Ithaca; one brother, David (Bobbi) Smith of Ithaca and their daughters, Stacey and Kirsten; a cousin, Libby Payne; and his faithful dog, Sparky.

NEWFIELD - Stephen W. Smith of Newfield passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at the age of 60.Born on August 30, 1943, in Ithaca, Stephen was the son of Elwood and Rebe Biggs Smith. He was a resident of Trumansburg for many years.Stephen faithfully served his country during the Vietnam Conflict and received an Honorable Discharge from the US Navy in 1967. He was proud of his membership in the American Legion.He was employed by Cargill and NCR. Stephen had also completed training as a professional carpet installer and had worked as an independent contractor in that field for many years.Stephen designed his home, and designed and built his horse barn. He was also a car buff who spent many hours at car shows, with a special interest in antique cars. Stephen's interest in antique's carried over to furniture and collectibles, which drew him to many auctions over the years.Stephen fought the good fight for as long as he could, and will be forever remembered as a loyal friend who was always willing to help someone in need. Surviving Stephen are his best friend of 20 years, Betsy Allen of Newfield; her son, Jazen (Kathy) Valencia and her grandson Wolf Valencia, both of Ithaca; one brother, David (Bobbi) Smith of Ithaca and their daughters, Stacey and Kirsten; a cousin, Libby Payne; and his faithful dog, Sparky. In keeping with Stephen's wishes, no calling hours have been scheduled.A Memorial Service will be held at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg, on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at 7:00 p.m., with the Rev.
