Keith Harsey Northrup Obituary

Keith Harsey Northrup of Trumansburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by family on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the age of 81. Keith was born in Ovid, New York on June 9, 1934, a son of the late Harsey and Esther (Westervelt) Northrup. He graduated from Trumansburg High School playing football, basketball, and baseball throughout his high school years. Keith worked at the Seneca Army Depot before taking a job at the Trumansburg Telephone Company. Retiring in 1996 as assistant manager, he devoted over 40 years of his life to the telephone company. Sports always played an important role throughout Keith's life. He coached Legion baseball and youth hockey. He was an umpire for many years and avid fan of the NY Yankees and Cleveland Browns. Keith was a great bowler and also was involved in the establishment of the Trumansburg Sports Hall of Fame. More than any other sport, Keith enjoyed playing golf with his friends and brother Cliff on a regular basis. They were co-founders of the popular Trumansburg Golf Course, established in 1969, where Keith later scored a hole in one. Keith also served on the Trumansburg Fair Board, enjoyed spending time both vegetable and flower gardening with his wife, Carol, and was an animal lover owning many dogs over the years. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Keith is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Northrup; three children, Becky (Richard) Stilwell, Brenda (Jeff Ewing) LaDue, and Dan (Mary Ellen Smoolca) Northrup; three grandchildren, Amber and Kaleigh Stilwell, and McKenna LaDue; a brother, Cliff (Margaret) Northrup; two sisters, Jane (Gene) Ward and Joyce Updike; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his son in law and grandson, Richard and Brandon LaDue in 2004. The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, 80 East Main Street, Trumansburg.
