Larry McEver (1966)

ITHACA - Sharon L. (Poyer) Housworth of 38 S. VanDorn Road, Ithaca, passed away at the Hospicare Residence, following a lengthy illness, on Thursday, June 29, 2006, at the age of 57.  Born on September 3, 1948 in Ithaca, Sharon was the daughter of Kenneth W. Poyer and Betty M. Bell (Mount).  Following her graduation from the Trumansburg High School in 1966, Sharon began a rewarding career as a Civil Service Employee with the Ithaca City Assessment Office and later with the Tompkins County Assessment Office when those agencies merged.  Sharon was sorely missed at the assessment office when she resigned to raise her children.  After her children were grown, Sharon continued as a dedicated Civil Service Employee while serving in her position of clerk for the Village of Trumansburg.  In most recent years, Sharon was an administrative assistant at the Finger Lakes Library System. Sharon was very proud of her home and enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife that visited there daily.  Family was the center of her world where the top priority was raising her sons.  She devoted herself to the boys care and enjoyed participating in their life events, especially while they played baseball and hockey in the early years.  The birth of her granddaughter brought immense joy and countless hours of entertainment to Sharon. Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth W. Poyer in June of 2000; and her mother, Betty Mount in February of 1993.  She is survived by her husband, of 38 years, Jim of Ithaca; two sons, Jason Housworth of Wisconsin and Patrick (Alicia) Housworth of Alpine; one granddaughter, Leigha; two brothers, Kenneth A. (Cathie) Poyer of Ithaca and David (Peggy) Poyer of Mecklenburg; one sister, Linda (Edward) Fetherbay of Danby; stepmother, Janice Poyer of Montour Falls; one stepsister, Pam (Ron) Applegarth of Newfield; two stepbrothers, Richard (Linda) Caywood of Georgia and Douglas (Pam) Mount of Trumansburg.  In addition, Sharon was loved like a daughter by her father-in-law, William Henry "Hank" Housworth of Jacksonville, who passed away in December of 2004; her mother-in-law, Imogene "Gene" Housworth of Jacksonville and was treated as one of their own by the entire Housworth family. In keeping with Sharon's wishes, a Memorial Service will be held at the Jacksonville United Methodist Church on Monday, July 3, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Nelson Reppert officiating. Prayers of Committal will follow at the Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg. Those who wish to make a contribution in Sharon's memory are asked to consider Hospicare & Palliative Care Services, 172 E. King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850, or the Trumansburg Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 418, Trumansburg, NY 14886. The family has entrusted arrangements to the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. 1-888-534-5446. www.ness-sibley.com.
