In Memory

Arden A. McCracken (Snyder) - Class Of 1968

The universe lost one of its' brightest, caring, and loving souls when Arden M. Snyder of Trumansburg passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Medical Center on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the age of 66. Arden was born in Ithaca on November 21, 1949, a daughter of the late Robert and Barbara (Cronk) McCracken Jr. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Trumansburg High School and during her high school years developed her love of the arts and dance. Her passion for creativity led her to a variety of jobs and experiences over the years. Arden was one of the first female musical booking agents in the state of New York, booking all types of acts ranging from big band to heavy metal throughout New York State and along the East Coast. She co-authored a book on auctions and was a co-executive producer of the independent film, The Art of a Bullet. Always an entrepreneur, Arden also owned an internet based art and antiques business, The McTara Gallery. Family and friends were always of the highest importance to Ardie, and she would go out of her way to ask how you were doing, place a quick phone call, or give you one of her famous "hugs." Ardie caught her mother's love of golf and could be found most any day with Barb at some golf course in Central NY, most often at Trumansburg GC. Later, as her Mom's golfing days subsided, they spent time together at the casino, where everyone knew them. She had a gift to touch the lives of all she met whether in person or virtually through her countless internet friendships and had acquaintances well beyond Tompkins County, literally throughout the world, including South Africa, California, India, South Carolina, Texas, Japan, Arizona, and the UK. Arden is survived by her husband of 28 years, Stephen Snyder; brother, Robert (Vida) McCracken III and Bob's children, Matthew and Holly; brother-in-law, David (Kathleen) Snyder and their children, Michael and Alison Snyder; and several cherished grandnieces and grandnephews, including Morgan, Stevie, Hayden, Robert, and Russel. A Celebration of Arden's Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. Services will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those to kindly consider making a contribution in Arden's memory to the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 or World Vision, PO Box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063 or www.worldvision.org.
