Activist and videographer, and the driving force behind Shaleshock Media, educating the public about hydrofracking. “He’s the kind of guy who is just unrelenting, driven, and he can talk nonstop,” friend Jim Murphy said. “He’s a wonderful soul that’s been this high energy asset to the community in terms of people understanding the environment and what’s going on around them.” |

Celebration Services For Cris McConkey
Local activist and videographer Cris McConkey passed away at home with his father and brother at his side on Tuesday, December 29.
McConkey was the driving force behind Shaleshock Media, which he found time to update even in 2015 as he was battling lung cancer. Friends and supporters came together two weeks ago for a dinner to help offset the costs of McConkey's treatments for the disease in Cuba, a country where he and his family had often traveled as part of their outreach with the Cuba Friendship Group of Greater Ithaca.
A celebration of McConkey's life and work is scheduled for 1 p.m. on this Saturday, January 2 at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca. Here's a link to the event on Facebook. Friends are asked to bring stories to share about Cris, and a plate of finger foods or a beverage, if possible.
