Ernest E. Conover - Class Of 1947

Ernest E. Conover of 16 Washington St., Trumansburg, passed away at the Cayuga Medical Center on Sunday, August 15, 1999 at the age of 71. Born April 5, 1928 in Trumansburg, Ernie was a son of Clifford and Laura Whittaker Conover. Following his graduation from Trumansburg High School Ernie accepted a position at the Ford Garage in Trumansburg. From 1955 to 1957, he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army. In 1957 he again accepted a position with the Trumansburg Ford Garage and continued to work there, as the Service Manager, until 1975. With his vast knowledge in automobile repair, Ernie qualified for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic postion with the Tompkins County Highway Department. He worked for the county from 1975 until his retirement in 1992 ... In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceeded in death by his brother, Roland C. Conover, in 1981.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 50 years, Ella Louise Slaght Conover of Trumansburg; a brother, LaVerne (Pat) Conover of Romulus; a brother-in-law, Stephen (Mary) Slaght of Ithaca; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Robert) Harding of Trumansburg; and several nieces and nephews.
