We used to form a type of gauntlet in the hall outside the main office, and Doc Hammond would stand with us. The jocks on one side, the 'hippies' on the other. One morning the lights wouldn't work...and Doc asked me to find someone to go the district office and inquire about maybe closing school. In the meantime, two things came to light. 1. another friend (I won't mention his name) had short-circuited the lights in the electrical room the evening before and no one had discovered the short yet. 2. I had a key that turned lights on an off. So I went around to all the switch/key banks on the wall and turned off all the lights just in case. Robin McFall went to the district office and came back with the news that the HS was closed for the day. So, we all climbed in a few cars, went to the lake, drank hard cider and beer all day (and did stupid things with guns) - only to remember at about 2.30pm that we had a baseball game at home against Interlaken. So we arrived absolutely hammered at the game, Bruce Harris amazingly struck out 15 and hit HR - standing on the mound grinning from ear to ear throughout the game while we giggled stupidly on the bench - and we won the game 11-0...and therefore, concluded that we need to get wasted before every game! Made perfect sense! :-)
